so... we are so excited to announce that we bought a house! Our FIRST HOUSE!
We have ALWAYS rented and been just happy doing so, but decided back in February that we wanted to look into buying in our area. We assumed that it would probably take months and months and months to find anything that met our criteria (budget, location, size, walkability, etc.) and weren't really looking too seriously. Anyways, the second weekend we looked we came across an adorable bungalow that met all of our needs and we put in an offer.
Crazily enough, the sellers accepted our offer and thus started our supremely expedited move!
So basically for the past 35 days I have been knee deep in inspections, paper meetings, loan filings, repair bids and blah blah blah. DocuSign was our best friend for many days!
Anyways, everything went through without a hitch and we closed exactly when we were supposed to on March 18th. We spent the next few weeks starting repairs and having some cosmetic work done.
We still have lots to do before we will feel like we are at home in our new place, but it's getting there and we LOVE it. So now I will probably be sharing lots of posts about updating the house because that's now become part of our lives.

a recipe for a traditional McCaffrey home-blessing
Ingredients: (1) new box of salt (1) fresh loaf of bread (1) broom - all placed in the kitchen area of the new residence.
Directions: Walk through the new home and recite the 91st Psalm. Close by asking for God's protection and blessing.
In the middle of our move, Jonathan's parents reminded us of an old McCaffrey tradition that was done in order to bless a new home or dwelling place. Since we have been running around like chickens with our head cut off for the past 5 days, we did not have a chance to fulfill our tradition. Feeling kind of guilty about our inability to keep up with our responsibilities, we finally managed to run to the grocery store and collect the necessary ingredients.
In the midst of all this excitement, it is important to thank God for the many blessings he bestows upon us and to ask for His protection while we venture out in this new phase in our lives. We are so blessed to be in this new home and we are so blessed to have each other while we are so far away from our family. I pray that God continues to show His blessings in everything we say and do.

the pains of our past
Moving from one home to another can bring up so many emotions. Mostly excitement and hope for new happy memories in a new home, but also sadness for what your leaving. We our moving from our adorable little home in Venice, our first California home. We fought so hard to make ends meet in this home, while Jonathan started his dream job. We conceived our first baby in this place. We learned so much about each other and were so excited to grow our family. This home also has some very dark emotions for me personally. This is where I got sick. This is where I went after we lost our baby. This is where we put away all of his sweet clothes and things. This is where I spent many days crying and hiding from the world. I am so sad to leave this place, but I am hoping for some happier memories at our new place

We're moving on up...
Well, up might not be the phrase, but we are moving. A few weeks ago I saw a listing for a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom in an fun area of Santa Monica and thought it might be worth checking out. Since I already had plans to meet with my buddy, Kaitlin, I made her come with me just in case the people showing the apartments were creepers or something (you never can tell around here).
