monthly noah: twenty

20 months old 22lbs, 4oz and 32 inches long!  Finally back up in his weight and heigh category. Noah's doctor was having us come in for a few extra check-ups just to make sure that his poor weight gain wasn't related to anything else, but after this most recent growth spurt she said he doesn't have to be back until his 2 year check-up! Yay! So glad my chubba wubba is finally back on track!

Here is a look at his charts.

Noah still wears a bunch of 9-12 month clothes, but has a few 12-18 month cloths. He is very much a long ways away from anything 18-24 months, but were getting somewhere.  His shoe size is in between a 4 and a 5.

Noah now says words like hippo, giraffe, monkey and elephant, butterfly, beans, rice, meat, bite, airplane, Elbow for Elmo, Nonny for naughty, shoes, fan, pants, fork, spoon, yeah, okay, no, oh no, mine, hey, hear ya go, phone and book.  He has been picking up on a few letter sounds,  like "c", "o", "y" and "h".  There is absolutely no rhyme or reason to what he has decided to pick up.  I tried to start with typical letter sounds like "c", "m", "a" and "t", but he wasn't really interested.  I think he picks a litter that is interesting to him and memorizes it.  That's fine... I am not trying to train him by any means so whatever order he picks up the alphabet at this age is fine.  This week I decided that we would start working on colors at home because I think he enjoys picking up new words and being able to associate them with real life objects.  I started with blue because (a) it's my favorite color and (b) he's a boy and therefore has LOTS of blue things.  He was super excited when he realized that mommy, daddy and Noah ALL had blue on one day... he kept pointing at each clothing article and exclaiming "bue".

Generally Noah is a very happy camper, but he usually gets really upset when he has to lay down for nap or has to go to bed.  I am working on making both of those events a lot more exciting because I really don't want him to hate sleeping.  He still sleeps for 12 hour stretches.  When we visited family in Dallas he managed to keep his California time and slept from 10:30pm to 10:30am.  While I hated that he was up so late in Dallas and that he slept so long into the day... he definitely made getting back into our California home routine much easier.  Noah still must have one long nap (at LEAST 2 hours) in the day.  Cutting that nap short will ruin everyone's day.  I thought it was too long for a while and tried to trim it, but after a lot of fussing and trouble getting him to bed because he was overtired even with an attempted earlier bedtime, I just caved and let him sleep as long as he can sleep.  We are keeping his current sleep and wake times for now because our current schedule gives him the most time with Daddy.  We will work on switching when he gets closer to starting preschool.

Noah still loves any meal time.  He is still so adventuresome.  Like I just plopped a bowl of Japanese curry in front of him and when I looked back a minute later he had devoured it.  Sometimes he will protest food, but it's never anything specific... it's usually mood related like if he is overtired.  He officially eats bigger portions than I do and often times eats his food and half of whatever I am eating.

Noah still hates the car. In our most recent visit to Texas we had a screaming match whenever we got into the carseat. Didn't matter when or where. It's really frustrating when we have to battle in traffic.  I really do try and avoid driving at all costs because it is seriously hard to drive through an hour of traffic with a ranting toddler in the backseat.

There has been lots of pretend play going on at the house lately.  Noah REALLY enjoys playing "chef".  He brings out all the bowls, spoons and play food and makes me dinner.  He calls it "cookeee" translated to cooking.  He plays that off an on all day.  If we are outside at the water table, he plays a variation of that as well.  He has also started playing a game that he calls "baby nigh nigh".  He lays down in the fetal position, closes his eyes and says night night.  His hope is that you will lay on the floor and do the same so that he can get away with climbing the walls or something.  His game is pretty sneaky if you ask me.  He also loves to take his "babies"(stuffed animals) for rides in his back pack or push cart, which I attribute to the fact that we still wear him around quite a bit or push him in the stroller whenever we are out.  He still loves an excuse to get into the water, whether it be the pool, water table, sprinkler, bath tub, or any other standing body of water.  With visiting Dallas and then coming home to warmer weather in LA, Noah is getting to enjoy quite a bit post season water-time which has been great.

I still cannot believe that this 20 month old is my child.  I feel like I am looking at a totally new kid every day with how much he changes.  Noah is such a sweetheart and a barrel of energy and we are so very happy and blessed with him in our lives.
