weekly wonder: twenty-two

What an exciting week we had.  My brother and his friend, Tony, came to visit us this week and so we were able to show them around Los Angeles a bit.  Of course we mostly took them to try out lots of different restaurants, but they still got to see a fair bit of the town.  Anyways, I decided that it would be really cool to take them to the Getty Center since neither of them had seen it before.

It was a perfect day for the Getty Center; sunny, warm and not to crowded.  Noah was particularly amazed with the tram ride from the parking structure to the actual museum.  He yelled "toot toot" the entire way because in his mind we were on a train and that's what the train says.  We got there just a little after 11 and Noah was already acting a little hungry.  We decided that we should grab a bite to eat at The Restaurant first and then we could spend the rest of the time checking out the Getty.  Lunch was so decadently amazing and all of us definitely left smacking our chops.

After lunch we wandered the grounds. I am absolutely fascinated with the Getty's architecture and greenery. So many amazing plants and the landscaping along the hillside is just perfect. Once we felt we had fully explored the grounds, we found photography exhibits of Hiroshi Hamaya and
Kansuke Yamamoto.  Hamaya's work was mainly landscape portraits and documenting lifestyles throughout the countryside in Japan, while Yamamoto was pretty hardcore into photo-surrealism.  I liked them both... Their work seemed to compliment each other in the gallery.

Unfortunately, the rest of the exhibits were pretty boring.  That's always been my complaint about the Getty... The grounds are awesome, but it usually only has one or two nice exhibits and everything else is bleh.  It ended up being okay because it was Noah's nap time and it was the perfect time to go home.

So all in all I would say that our visit to the Getty was a huge success!  Noah was able to run around, climb stairs and we were all able to see some really interesting art and eat some fancy food.  Great, great, win, win!
