weekly wonder: 2014 California Poppy Festival

If you know me... You know that neither Jonathan or I are California natives.  We are TEXANS! A while back, we decided to make an effort to get to see different places and attend different events around this big state in efforts to better connect with our current residence.

In Texas, it is pretty much a state-wide tradition to take photos with the state flower, the Bluebonnet. As a child (and young adult) it was always such an exciting thing to spot those first blue buds in the fields along the highway because we knew that meant the Bluebonnets would be in full bloom soon and we could go out and take pictures.  It has always been one of my most treasured Texas traditions. We decided for as long as we are in California, we should try our hand at visiting the Poppies to kind of recreate that old tradition.

We drove out to Lancaster, CA with our friends (LA family) on Sunday morning.  I scored two free tickets into the fairgrounds as we were entering which was pretty exciting.  We walked around and sampled food.  We even saw a cute dog show.  Oddly enough, there were no actual poppies at the Poppy Festival. That was fine though.  Noah ran around and played. We bought him a loud and messy bubble blowing machine.  We ate even more fair food.  We had an amazing time with our LA family.

Once we maxed out on festival fun, we drove out into the country and took pictures with actual poppies. It was really beautiful and we have some evidence of the wonderful memories from this adventure.
