weekly wonder: forty-six / Christmas 2013

Sorry for the lack of posting.  We have been all over the place for the past week and I am just now getting settled before we uproot ourselves and head all over the place again.  We decided to go home to Texas for Christmas and be with all of our loved ones. Nothing heals the soul better than being with people you love.

Not sure if you remember, but last year we drove to Dallas.  I thought we were crazy.  It was exhausting and Noah was a beast.  Thought we would never do it again, but low and behold when we started making Christmas plans Jonathan insisted that we do the whole 24+ hour driving bit again.  We did things a little differently this year and it actually worked in our favor.  We left at 4am and bypassed all of the LA traffic.  Noah sleeps until 9:30ish, so we drove until he woke up.  That was in Lake Havasu.  We stopped, got breakfast, ran the kid up and down a few hills and hit the road again.  Noah played with puzzles and books (in his rear-facing carseat) for a bit until we stopped for lunch in Flagstaff, New Mexico.  There was lots of snow at this point so we had to run him around somewhere indoors.  Once we got in the car he went down for his normal nap time, only stopping for gas and pee breaks and drove until we hit Albuquerque, New Mexico.  We got dinner and stayed the night there. The next morning we got up at 5am and repeated the whole trip over again this time stopping in Amarillo for lunch and landing in Dallas by dinner time.  It was exhausting because we got up 4 hours earlier than we normally get up and we spent all day in the car, but it was MUCH easier than most road trips we have taken with Noah because he was asleep a lot and we made sure to run him around any chance we got.  Plus we saved a TON of money not flying.

Since we have been back we have spent most of our time shuttling ourselves back and forth to see different family relatives.  It has been so pleasant.  I am so glad we came home.

Noah, Jonathan and I had a fabulous Christmas! Noah's big Christmas gift was a scooter (with all the appropriate safety gear of course) and Jonathan got a matching dad scooter too!  I got mostly clothes and makeup which was pretty exciting for me.  Noah has had a blast seeing all of his aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and other extended family.  I feel as though we have been really blessed to have this time with family.
