Picking up from where we left off... we rented a car in The Netherlands in order to drive to our final destination... Berlin, Germany. Jonathan had always dreamed of driving on the Autobahn... so he was pretty pumped we got to fulfill that dream while on our trip. It took 8 hours, but we had a few detours a long the way since we had four adults and two kids in the car. The best detour was when we needed to find lunch. I searched Yelp.com for something not too far off the beaten path. Well unfortunately what was "not far" on Yelp, was out in the middle of no where for us. We ended up driving into the country on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere in Germany. When we got to our destination, we had discovered the most amazing hiking destination next to a Bavarian beer garden.
The next few days were a whirlwind and I can't even remember everything we saw, but a few things that stood out to me where...
-The Berlin Zoo and Aquarium
-Checkpoint Charlie
-The Berlin Wall
-The Kaiser Wilhelm Church
and
-The Mercedes Benz Arena for the League of Legends World Championship finals
Of course there were many other amazing places we saw and riding the trains and metros were fun too, but these were just the memories that stand out in my head.
If you ask Noah what his favorite thing was he will tell you eating the giant pretzels day in and day out since they sell them on every corner. If you ask Olive (and if she could talk), she would say taking her shoes and other articles of clothing off in the metro. Jonathan is probably trying to forget the trauma of traveling with two young children and a fussy wife all together, but I would say this was a wonderful and successful trip. I will definitely look back on it with fondness.
